Overview

Have you ever bought something that you broke, lost or was stolen before you really had a chance to enjoy it?  The Purchase protection reimburses up to $500 on new items of personal property that have been victim to physical damage, lost and theft.

  • Provides protection for the first 90 days after the purchase against direct physical damage, loss or theft, except as herein provided, on purchases made in the U.S. when paid with a credit or debit card, or personal check. Up to $5,000 protection per year.

Description

Purchase Protection protects new items of personal property for the first 90 days after the purchase against direct physical damage, loss or theft, except as herein provided. The program includes all new purchases made in the U.S., unless otherwise excluded, where the entire purchase price of the product is paid using your personal checking account, credit or debit card, share draft account or cash with store receipt. Gifts are covered when registered with the claim office within sixty (60) days of the purchase.

Purchase Protection Limits
This program applies to the first ninety (90) days after purchase of the product, in the U.S., up to a maximum claim amount of $500.00 per item, $1,000.00 per claim and $5,000.00 total per Member per Purchase Protection plan year as previously set forth above. There is a $1,000.00 limit per litem on jewelry, watches, furs, antiques, coins, stamps, fine art, other numismatics and computer equipment. Where damage consists of articles in a pair or set, Purchase Protection will not pay more than the proportionate share of the item(s) damaged that it bears to the total purchase price. This coverage is in excess of any other applicable indemnity program. Valid claims will be satisfied either by replacing the stolen or damaged item or by a cash payment in an amount not to exceed the amount of the total purchase price or the portion of the purchase price of the item which was purchased with your personal checking account, credit or debit card, share draft account or cash, subject to the limits of liability. Failure to promptly notify the claims office of damage, to promptly and fully complete and submit the damage report and to follow all the claim procedures and instructions will result in the denial of a claim. When a claim is paid, upon request from the claims office, the claimant shall transfer the legal right to recover from the party responsible for the damage to any party designated by the claims office.

Exclusions
The program excludes traveler’s checks, tickets of any kind, negotiable instruments, cash or its equivalent, circulating currency, passports, documents, real property, animals, living plants or consumable items, like golf balls. Damage on motorized vehicles of any type, intricate parts thereof, water-craft, aircraft or structural items intended for storage, transport, display or habitation, are not included. Theft from automobiles is excluded unless from a locked auto with visible marks of forced entry present. Items intended for commercial use are not included.  Damage caused by fraud, abuse, war or hostilities of any kind, confiscation by order of any government, public authority or customs official, risks of contraband, damage or theft arising from illegal activity or act, normal wear and tear, damage or theft through normal course of play or consumption. radioactive contamination, flood, earthquake, mysterious disappearance or inherent product defect is not included. Damage or theft of jewelry from baggage unless carried by hand and under the personal supervision of the Member or Member’s traveling companion previously known to the Member is not included. Consequential damage or loss, including bodily injury, property damage or punitive damages, are not included, nor are resulting attorney’s fees and legal costs.

How to file a claim:


To file a claim, please call 1-800-711-4280 for a Claim Form.  The Member must notify the claim office within forty-five (45) days from the date of damage, theft or product defect. Failure to notify the claim office within forty-five (45) days will result in the denial of the claim.  The claim form is to be completed and returned with the requested documentation of damage, theft, product defect and/or other information, as soon as possible, but no later than ninety (90) days from the date of damage, theft or product defect with a copy of the store receipt and a cancelled check, card or share draft receipt or cash receipt with which the product was purchased.
