Baggage Delay

Overview

Traveling can be stessful enough, imagine the headaches cause when arriving at your destination without your checked luggage.  If you are without your checked luggage for 12 hours or more, this benefit will reimburse you up to $250 for clothing, personables, toiletries, etc. What a great benefit for anyone who travels.

  • Reimbursement of expenses incurred when baggage is delayed for 12 hours or more beyond the actual time of arrival at final destination.
  • Expenses reimbursed up to $250 per trip, per year
  • Reimbursable expenses include costs for food, parking fees, ticket exchange fees, etc.

Description

In the event that the Member's checked baggage is delayed by any Common Carrier for twelve (12) hours or more from the actual time of arrival at the Member's final destination, expenses incurred will be reimbursed up to $250 per occurrence excess of any reimbursable expenses incurred by the Common Carrier for the cost of reasonable additional clothing and essential personal articles purchased by the Member.

This benefit does not apply if the Baggage is delayed after the Member has reached his/her return destination. Only one Baggage Delay will be covered per trip. Any payment of this benefit shall be offset against any claim ultimately payable under the Loss of Baggage benefit defined below.

Conditions:

  • Program will reimburse expenses for delayed baggage up to $250, excess of any reimbursable expenses incurred by the common carrier per trip and $250 per member per year.
  • Claims for checked baggage can only be processed and paid after the common carrier responsible for the delay has settled and processed for the claim against it. If the common carrier completely denies your claim (does not acknowledge that you checked a bag) there will be no reimbursement for delay paid under this plan.
  • You are covered under this plan only if you are a member of a program at the time of the trip and when the claim is filed with the airline.
  • There is no coverage for delay: caused by war, civil war or radioactive contamination; contributed to or caused by voluntary consent; or contributed to or caused by confiscation or requisition by Customs or other government authority; caused by acts of terrorism.

How To File a Claim

How to file a claim:

  • Report delayed baggage immediately as follows:
  • For delayed baggage you must file a report with the common carrier before leaving the terminal.
  • You must obtain receipt from common carrier indicating date and time baggage was returned to you or picked up by you from common carrier.
  • You must retain all written reports and receipts until the final claim determination has been made.
  • Call 1-800-711-4280 to obtain a claim form.
  • Claim forms will not be processed until all required documentation is received. You must return your completed claim form and required documentation as soon as possible but no later than thirty (30) days from the date of occurrence or your claim will be denied.
