Trip Delay/Trip Interruption

Overview

If your trip has been delayed or interrupted due to one of the covered reasons you will be reimbursed up to $500 per trip. 

  • Reimbursement of expenses if trip is delayed because of carrier delay, lost or stolen passport, travel documents or money, quarantine, national disaster, injury or sickness of Member.
  • Expenses reimbursed up to $500 per trip.
  • Reimbursement of expenses if trip is interrupted due to sickness, injury or death of Member
  • Expenses reimbursed up to $500 per trip.

Description

This benefit will reimburse Member up to $500 per year ($500 max per trip) for expenses incurred due to trips that have been delayed or interrupted for more than twelve (12) hours. Trip delay or interruption must be caused by the following:

  • Sickness, injury, or death of you or your Immediate Family Member.
  • Bankruptcy or financial default of a domestic - airline, cruise line, tour operator, or   travel supplier (other than the tour operator or person or travel agency from whom the Insured purchased the travel arrangements), which stops service more than thirty (30) days following the Insured’s Effective Date or after the Insured’s Covered Trip departure. Unforeseeable Organized Labor Strikes, natural disasters, or bad weather resulting in the complete cessation of services by an airline, tour operator, or cruise line.
  • You are hijacked, quarantined, required to serve on a jury when jury summons is issued after Your Effective Date, served with a court order issued after Your Effective Date, requiring You to appear, or having Your home made uninhabitable by fire or flood.
  • Lost or stolen passport, travel documents or money

Exclusions:

  • Forfeited, non-refundable unused payments or deposits for the Member's trip if the trip is interrupted.
  • Additional transportation expenses incurred by the Member, either: (i) to the Return Destination; or (ii) from the place that the Member left the trip to the place where the Member may rejoin the trip,
  • Additional transportation expenses incurred by the Member to reach the Trip Destination if the Member is delayed, and leaves after the departure date. However, the benefit payable under (b) and (c) above will not exceed the cost of economy airfare (or first class if the Member's tickets were first class) by the most direct route, less any refunds paid or payable. Bankruptcy or financial default of an airline, cruise line, tour operator, or travel supplier within 30 days of the Insured’s Effective Date is excluded from coverage.
  • Additional expenses not included: Alcohol or liquor, Entertainment (Shows, plays, movies, etc.), Hotel accommodations in excess of $100 per night, Limo service, any communication service in excess of $50.

How To File a Claim

How to file a claim:

The Member must provide original ticket and receipts for additional expenses. For a claim form, call 1-800-711-4280 and it will be mailed to you. The claims and required documentation must be received by the administrator within thirty (30) days of the delay to be valid. Your Travel Delay claim will be reduced by any amount that is credited or refunded to you by any other source.
